Garba on, Tension be Gone
It's white day today, but yep my uterus decided to follow its own shade! Navratri, a nine-day festival filled with colors, celebrated with pomp and glory, to greet Durgama and her nine splendid Avatars. Whole nation grooves to the beats of Garba and Dandiya. During this time of year we get the chance to reconnect with our family, friends, acquaintances, and, most importantly, our playful side! BUT, a high probability of your crimson tide within these nine days always hovers in your mind! We all love festivals, but they can be grueling, especially when you are on your period! But hold on, why should you restrict yourself and go into slumber when you have the right to decide whether you want to be a part of one? Ethnic norms and religious taboos on menstruation are often compounded by traditional associations with evil spirits, shame, and embarrassment. Such taboos about menstruation present in many societies impact on girls' and women's emotional state, mentality, lifestyle and most importantly, health. This shatters & restricts the festive enthusiasm and fun of many girls & women. It is upon you to decide whether to join an event or not because you know your body best! We know periods can become annoying. But, don’t panic when your dates coincide because you got this! Knowing your dates and planning for it can be helpful. Pack a small pouch with tampons, pads, cups, or liners (depending on what you are comfortable with). This pouch is your 'essential kit,' ladies. I would also recommend adding in a pouch of tissues. Sometimes the toilets run out of toilet rolls. It is safe and hygienic to have your tissues. Also, do not let your period cramps ruin your day. Always remember to stay hydrated. At times we forget to drink enough water, which can cause bloating and make your cramps even worse. So grab on your Garba shoes, and don't let the bleed hold you back!
